Briggs celebrated his half birthday on November 6th! I can't believe how fast the time has gone! Two days later on the 8th he started with his first major cold and the really bad stuff lasted 5 days. 103.6 fever from Saturday to Wednesday and then it went to 100.4 the remainder of Wednesday. He was very congested and miserable. Nick and I were losing our minds!! He didn't sleep much and it was hard for him to eat. BUT Thursday he did a complete 180 and was feeling much better! He still has some congestion and a cough but is back to his happy self! Last Friday we had his 6 month check up and he weighs 17lbs. 11ozs. He's average for weight but Elli was 16lbs. at her 1 year check up so to us he feels like a brut! He's 27 1/2 inches long. He's already out of his infant car seat! Everything checked out great and he is a happy, healthy little guy! Oh and I started him on cereal and baby food about 4 days before he turned 6 months and he was doing great and loved it and ever since his cold he wants nothing to do with it! I put the spoon up to his mouth and he starts bawling and if I slip some in his mouth he starts gagging. The nurse said it's probably a phase and once he's feeling better he'll go back to it. Stinker! Next Wednesday, November 26th we have another days worth of appointments at Boys Town. We meet with his audiologist and then do an audio/verbal evaluation (sound booth test). His audiologist told us not to expect any results. She said we may see him respond to some sound but not to expect it and even if he can hear something with his hearing aid in that he's too young to understand the "game" they do. I think they make a sound and then point to a light that is shining and it conditions the child to look at the light when a sound is made but she said 6 months is very young to grasp that and in most situations 9 months is the earliest to get a real indication from this test but it's a requirement for the implants so we have to get it in before all the paperwork is submitted to insurance. Then we break for lunch and come back to meet with his E.N.T. and then off to choose which implant we want! Very nerve racking and exciting!!! Nerve racking in the sense that this is a life decision were making for him (not going with C.I.'s but choosing an implant that he'll have forever) and exciting because we're one step closer to Briggs hearing!! We're still looking at the beginning of March for his first surgery - so only 3 1/2 months away. After his appointments next week he'll have an MRI which will be the end of December, beginning of January and after that all the paperwork will be submitted to insurance to see if we get approval for the surgery and then it's go time!! I'll update again after his round of appointments next week.
